4. A gift from Oxfam, the international relief and development organization.

As you probably already know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I wanted to take a moment to draw your attention to a little-known organization called Casting For Recovery. The group sponsors weekend fly-fishing getaways for breast cancer survivors in all stages of treatment

Why fly-fishing? As explained by CFR’s Web site, fly-fishing is a low-impact activity enjoyed in the serenity of nature. Additionally, the weekends allow cancer patients to bond with and learn from their fellow survivors.

You can donate to this unique cause here. You can donate in honor or memory of another person, and have an acknowledgment sent to anyone of your choosing.

If you’re going to make a gift of a charitable contribution, I wholeheartedly recommend Casting For Recovery–for your outdoorsy friends, for your philanthropist friends, or for anyone who likes to make a difference.
