Eco Dog: Healthy Living for Your Pet by Corbett Marshall and Jim Deskevich demonstrates the everyday dangers in traditional cleaners and pet products–then shows you how to make your own safe, natural foods, flea treatments, and toys. There’s even instructions to recycle your old sweaters into a felt blanket for Sparky. Here’s an idea: Make one of the recipes from the book (but don’t get it dirty!) to present with the gift.

3. The Green Bible: Understanding the Bible’s Powerful Message for the Earth, $19.99, highlights more than 1,000 verses pertaining to the earth’s beauty and our responsibility to protect it. OK, maybe that 12-year-old on your list won’t so much care that the surface of this ball is made of recycled rubber, or that for every 70 balls, 1 tire is left out of a landfill (not the most impressive stats, perhaps, but it’s something). But the camo-green color and catchy “Think Globally, Hoop Locally” slogan (printed right on the ball) jazzes up the Wilson Rebound–and what kid doesn’t love that new basketball smell? I would say this gift is a slam dunk, but how cliché would that be? $12.99 at Target and other stores; also available online.
